11CHE - Chemistry (MCert)
Subject Description
Teacher in Charge: Mrs J. Errington, Dr I. Thomas.
11CHE | Year 11 Chemistry MCERT
Course Statement: | Chemistry involves the study of matter and the changes it undergoes. Students develop an understanding of the structure, composition and properties of matter, how it chemically changes and the energy involved. Using the fundamental understanding of the properties of materials, students can make sense of the material world around them, and to critically analyse what is going on. As a result, Chemistry students are better equipped to understand issues such as environmental sustainability as well as the development of new materials and sources of energy. This course provides the foundations of the above chemistry skills and knowledge to enable students to undertake further study in Chemistry. The course uses a number of New Zealand contexts and practical experiments to highlight core chemistry ideas.
