Recommended Prior Learning| Prerequisites: | C or better in 11BIO: MCERT Biology or C or better in the Biology aspects of 11SCI: MCERT Science (General). Students require grade B or better in 11SCI to choose two NCEA Level 2 Science subjects and grade B+ or better in 11SCI to choose all three NCEA Level 2 Science subjects (12BIO, 12CHE, 12PHY). |
12 Biology - NCEA Level 2
| Course Statement: | Biology is about the study of living things and how they interact with each other and the environment. Students develop an understanding of the diversity of life and life processes, of evolution as the result of life processes and the ecology, and the impact of humans on all forms of life and the environment. As a result, students are better informed and able to make reasoned, balanced judgements on some of the biological issues affecting New Zealanders such as vaccination, genetic testing and modification, sustainability and conservation, and protection of our unique flora, fauna and ecosystems. They will also have a greater insight into the working of their own bodies and an understanding of some of the health issues affecting New Zealanders and on a global basis. |
