Year 11 ESOL                                                                      

Course Statement:

This course offers scaffolds into the 12ESL course and a focus on the Literacy co-requisites (CAA). Students in this class will learn the skills needed to be successful in Level 2 English in addition to improving their existing use of the English language, reading and making sense of written texts. 

Prerequisites:

Success at 02SENG, 03SENG or 10ESL level or placement as a result of ESOL testing.

  • Reading skills (short stories, reading logs, current events)
  • Film study
  • Research
  • Writing skills (vocabulary building, grammar, sentence structure, paragraphing)
  • Debating skills
  • Listening skills

Course prerequisites

The student can read articles, literary prose and reports concerned with contemporary problems where writers adopt particular attitudes and viewpoints.

The student can write clear, detailed texts on a range of subjects, passing on information or giving reasons in support of or against a particular point of view.
