Subject Description

The Year 10 English (Extension) course includes the study of a variety of literature texts, creative and formal writing, close-viewing of film, reading comprehension and speech. The course is designed to foster students’ enjoyment of the subject and prepare them for the requirements of the Year 11 English (Extension) course.

Students are selected for this course by the HOF English on the basis of their position in year 10 English results, and by discussion with classroom teacher recommendation. Students should expect to contribute to class discussions readily and demonstrate engagement with the units covered.

Topics Include (but not limited to):

  • Response to text studies: short story, novel, and Shakespearian drama
  • Creative Writing
  • Formal Writing
  • Persuasive Speech
  • Close-Reading of Unfamiliar Texts
