12 Mathematics (Statistics) - NCEA Level 2

Course Statement

This course is designed to give students a taster of some of the skills needed in Level 2 Mathematics with an emphasis on Statistics and away from Algebra. 

Students taking this course may then progress onto 13MST: NCEA Level 3 Statistics.


Students intending to progress to 13MCA: NCEA Level 3 Mathematics (Calculus) MUST take 12MAT: NCEA Level 2 Mathematics.

Course Overview

Term 1
Weeks 1-3 = Probability External Preparation covering 2-way tables, relative risk and analysing experimental distributions.
Weeks 4-11 = Questionnaires internal



Term 2
Weeks 1-2 = Simulations Internal
Weeks 3-5 = Statistical Reports Internal
Weeks 6-10 = Experiments Internal

Term 3
Weeks 1-4 Inference Internal
Weeks 5-10 Probability External + Mock Test

Term 4
Probability External Revision for NCEA examinations

Recommended Prior Learning

Prerequisites:
Completion of Year 11 Mathematics with B or better in 11MAT: MCert Mathematics (Core).

• 12 MST: a cost of approx. $ 8 for 1 book AS91267 (probability).
